Saint Laurent Medium Bellechasse

IMAGE: SAINT LAURENT

New month, new bag from Saint Laurent and today’s focus is squarely (and quite aptly too) on this versatile little number known as the Medium Bellechasee that is equal parts chic and sharp in a smooth calfskin exterior that’s full on function and style.

This variation, which comes with a top handle, will remind you of a traditional briefcase/satchel that can be carried two ways. You can wear it across the body (or over the shoulder) or use it as a clutch. On the inside, you’ll find a roomy compartment that comes with its own interior slot pocket, as well two inner flap slots for all your important bits and bobs. In other words, enough space for most everything you need on any given day while you’re out and about with this little one.

What sets this chic satchel apart from Saint Laurent’s extensive line of bags? Besides its minimalist/vintage good looks (yes, you could argue it one of two ways), it would be how ‘plain’ it is, no large YSL logo on the flap, nothing gold or shiny, just the square clasp featuring brushed silver-tone hardware etched with the smallest of Saint Laurent logos.

In other words, simplicity is what makes this bag a winner when the criteria is all about quiet good looks. Available in Black (shown above), Dark Red and Navy, the 22 cm by 16 cm Medium Bellechasse retails for SGD2750 and will be available in Singapore this month.

Saint Laurent Nano Classic Sac De Jour

Categories:Other Brands

saint_laurent_nano-classic-sac-de-jour1One of the bags that has been sitting high on my #lovelovelove list ever since it was launched is the Classic Sac De Jour, a rejigged reinterpreted reimagined framed top handle bag from Saint Laurent that everyone knows looks like someone else’s bag but still loves nonetheless. And the surest way to know if the bag is popular is to count the new season variations/sizes because the way I see it, the more there are this season just reflects on how well it did last season.

And in the case of the SDJ, there’s no denying its status of currently holding top position as the French luxury house’s ‘it’ bag, especially with the two newish sizes just added to the family. First up, the Nano Classic Sac De Jour, which is as small as it gets for the SDJ. Measuring some 22 cm by 18 cm, it lacks nothing of the features that come with her bigger siblings and you’ll still find the long shoulder sling, slot pocket, padlock and key, albeit shrunken every so slightly just to up its ‘cute’ factor.

saint_laurent_nano-classic-sac-de-jour2Priced from SGD2990 for the ones in calfskin leather, all the way to SGD27,300 for the ones in exotic crocodile, another variation worth checking out comes embellished in studs (shown above) that will set you back by SGD4080.

saint_laurent_baby-classic-sac-de-jourIf you love the Nano Classic SDJ but feel the need to carry at least half your kitchen sink around when you’re out and about (because God forbid you’re in town and without your 34 privilege cards, 5 sticks of lip gloss and a stuffed wallet filled with receipts you don’t really need), you can always go up one size and check out the Baby. Yes, the Baby Classic Sac De Jour is bigger than the Nano but smaller than the Small, measuring some 26 cm by 21 cm.

Also available in a variety of colours and finishes, the ones that are available now in Singapore include the ones in Violet (shown above), Fog (you know, that perfect shade of misty grey) and Black. Priced from SGD3440 and up, it’s a good size for work and play. Well, maybe just play, because if it is for work I’ll probably go up another size or two.

Saint Laurent Monogram Universite Bag

Categories:Other Brands

Saint-Laurent-Large-Monogram-Université-Flap-Bag-Beige

When we say with confidence that every ‘great bag’ has their own ‘great story’, we really mean it.
After Hedi Slimane chopped the Yves from the Yves Saint Laurent name, he then introduced a couple if new bags that looked amazingly timeless. And I need to give him a compliment for keeping the YSL logo on most of these accessories.
The Saint Laurent Monogram Université shoulder bag has a story to tell – so sit down, relax and enjoy what I am about to share. It’s designed in 2014 by Hedi slimane, the Université bag has been added to the classic Monogram Saint Laurent Line and it bears the name of the street Rue de L’université.
But what is ‘Rue de L’université’ ?
It’s where the house of Saint Laurent established its salons de couture this year. The Université bag is a transposition of a classic french satchel to be worn over the shoulder or with the shoulder strap.
To be honest, we didn’t know much about this bag until Yves Saint Laurent contacted us last week. We were informed that its one of their classic design and instantly we knew it must be shared with you.
This bag comes in two sizes – small and medium. Small is measured 10 x 17 x 5 cm (H x W x D) and medium is measured 21 x 29 x 9 cm (H x W x D).

Saint Laurent Spring 2016 Ad Campaign Is All About Tiaras

Categories:Fashion

Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 2016 campaign celebrates the punk princesses of the world – in a sense. The black and white photographs capture the micro-mini skirts of the collection, as well as the regal aspects, like a fur overcoat. But of course, as with any princess, you can’t forget the tiara!

Saint Laurent Spring 2016 Ad Campaign

Models Signe Lund and Steffi Soede embodied the roles they were cast to portray of glamorous girls with rebellious, grungy sides. When you look at these photos, you can’t help but be transported back to the fashion of the ‘90s, with the era’s staple grunge showing up in the outerwear, as well as the laidback nature of the models.

Hedi Slimane is the creative director of Saint Laurent Pairs, and is thus at the helm of this ad campaign. He chose to debut the tiara concept back when the collection walked the runway, and it seems to work even better in the campaign’s still shots than it did on the runway. We were thrilled when we saw that Saint Laurent had improved significantly from the past year, and now seeing the campaign makes it much more enjoyable. While we were able to see the great pieces on the runway, the black and white photos provide a new, elevated platform for the overall looks, which serve to further express the grungy glamour of the overall ensembles.

Sequins and metallics are a large part of the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2016 collection (sparkle and shine is definitely in this year), and even with the monochromatic photos you can see exactly how much went into the clothes.

A sleek and simple cowled mini dress was featured underneath an almost elegant fur jacket, which only further emphasized the regality of the tiara. But, of course, Slimane wouldn’t want to let that go unchecked. So a pair of knee-high riding boots was paired with it to remind the viewer exactly what the whole collection is about.

As we were shown when the collection walked the runway, this season shows Saint Laurent with a greater balance between “sexy” and what could be construed as “trashy.” While some of the overall looks even in the campaign were skirting the line more than others, nothing blatantly crossed the line. Slimane was able to maintain his clear vision of juxtaposing grunge and glamour, without falling too far to one side or the other at any given time.

But of course, the real star of the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2016 ads is the tiara. Whether as a symbol or an accessory, you can’t deny the stunning regality they provide to the looks. Many little girls imagine life as a princess, but many still have that spark of rebellion within them. Here, Slimane has cultivated those harbored feelings and created a collection that transforms them into clothes fit for young adults.

Regardless of the past year’s misstep, the new spring/summer collection has more than made up for that. And with the release of this campaign, there is room for further reassurance. Slimane, and other executives at Saint Laurent, do know what they’re doing, and we hope to see increasingly great lines walk the runway in the seasons to come.
